In Memoriam, where we fondly remember past members of our group

2014: Our Friend and group member, Hazel Webb, passed away on 2nd December.

Hazel Webb

A celebration and thanksgiving service for her life took place on 12th December at The Oaks, Havant Crematorium.

She will be sorely missed by all.

2013: The sudden loss of our friend Doug Laybourne on 5th November affected not only the the lives of his family but for Different Strokes Portsmouth as a whole.
Doug LaybourneDoug, a founder member of our group and later acting as Treasurer also managed our website.

Doug's funeral on 27th November was a well-attended affair where his very full life was remembered with great affection.

2013: It is with much regret and sadness that we report the death of Dorothy Mew whose funeral took place on Monday 5th August at Portchester Crematorium.

Dorothy, a regular member over many years, enjoyed our swimming group at Fareham Leisure Centre and also also attended our social evenings at the Golden Hind in Copnor Road, Portsmouth.

Dorothy was a very private person in some respects so we don't have a photograph of her. She is sadly missed by all the members who knew her and her 'dry wit' for the unwary.

White ensign2012: We were very sad to announce the passing of John Land on 9th January 2012.

John's funeral, held on Wednesday 1st February 2012 at Portchester Crematorium was followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Hampshire Hog Public House, Clanfield. We extend our thanks to the Land family for their exceptional generosity on that particular day.

2011: Our dear friend, Hendren Jutla (Affectionately known as, "H") passed away on 7th July 2011Hendren Jutla

H's funeral took place on 26th July 2011 at the Church of the Sacred Heart & St Peter the Apostle, Waterlooville and was followed by a further service 3.30pm at Portchester Crematorium. It was H's wish that bright colours be worn by those attending.

The Wake was held at the Plough & Barleycorn pub, Tempest Avenue, Waterlooville where all made to feel welcome.

2009: Sadly, a Founder Member of Different Strokes Portsmouth, Bill Owen died suddenly on Friday 12th June 2009. Through Bill's determination and inner strength he achieved a somewhat 'miracle' recovery from his stroke and enjoyed bothcoarse fishing and sea fishing; sufficiently skilled to win many prizes.

His Funeral/cremation took place on Monday 29th June 2009 and was so well attended it was 'standing room only'.

He is pictured below, in the centre, next to his very close friend John Dean on his left at our Christmas Dinner in Saffrons in 2004. We will miss you buddy.
